NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, has recognized Maria Elena Poyer, senior development manager, Amazon.com, with its prestigious 2023 Developing Leaders Award.

Driven by collaboration and exploration, Poyer has evolved as a dedicated commercial real estate professional, specializing in acquisitions and development. With a proven track record and throughout her career, she has shepherded over $4.9 billion in commercial real estate transactions and worked on various developments, bringing a wealth of expertise to every project. In her current role at Amazon, she oversees land acquisitions, due diligence and development, ensuring each location aligns with project requirements supporting Amazon’s Global Customer Fulfillment network. Her background is enriched with brokerage experience at JLL and investment banking roles at Bank of America. Her collaborative approach has fostered strong partnerships with stakeholders and investors, and she thrives in high-stakes scenarios, consistently delivering results.

Poyer serves as the co-president of "Women at Amazon," Amazon's largest ERG, supporting a community of over 30,000 members and 157 chapters. She has served on NAIOP’s North American Executive Board and is currently serving on NAIOP’s research committee as a Visionary in addition to being a member of the select National Forums. She has served in leadership roles with NAIOP Washington State including as co-chair of the Developing Leaders committee. In addition, she serves as a board member with CREW Seattle.

One of five young professionals to receive NAIOP’s honor this year, Poyer was honored during an awards ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 19, at NAIOP's CRE.Converge 2023 conference in Seattle.

Established in 2006, the Developing Leaders Award is given to young industry professionals from across NAIOP’s chapter network in all sectors of commercial real estate. The annual award honors exceptional professionals under the age of 35 for their remarkable professional accomplishments, strong leadership and significant community involvement.
