Keynote: Five Economic Drivers That Will Define the Post-pandemic World

8:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. ET

The global economy was in a precarious place even before the COVID-19 pandemic began. Many of the largest developed and developing countries were already experiencing low, slow or even no growth. In this sense, the COVID-19 crisis has served as a catalyst, accelerating threats to the global economy. Moreover, several headwinds are exacerbating these challenges: technological advances, automation and the risk of a jobless underclass; weakening demographics, in terms of quantity of the population and the quality of the workforce; worsening income inequality; scarcity of natural resources and climate change concerns; and unsustainable debts and declining productivity.

Global economist Dambisa Moyo, Ph.D., will demonstrate how these factors are already creating a ripple effect on GDP, inflation, consumer spending and the supply chain. She will highlight how the commercial real estate community can recognize and seize opportunities that lie within these challenges and headwinds. Known for her balance of contrarian thinking with measured judgement, Moyo will provide unique perspectives on how to turn economic insight into investible ideas in the future.

Every design decision, from material and product selection to envelope design and construction, can have an impact on the environment, and the methods used to evaluate those decisions are still not widely understood. This talk will address critical issues you should consider as you evaluate the environmental impacts of building materials to maximize performance and deliver lasting value.
