More than 190 NAIOP members, representing 40 chapters visited Capitol Hill to meet with their respective Congressmen and Senators during NAIOP’s Chapter Leadership and Legislative Retreat (CL&LR), held in Washington, D.C. February 11 – 14.

During their meetings with elected officials and staff, NAIOP members and chapter staff advocated NAIOP’s legislative priorities, including tax legislation, energy policy and transportation and infrastructure needs. NAIOP’s strong presence on the hill included more than 150 visits with Congressional offices.

During CL&LR, Congressman Erik Paulson (R-Minn.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and Congressman John Barrow (D-Ga.), a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, addressed attendees and talked about issues pertaining to tax reform, fiscal negotiations, and energy efficiency.

NAIOP member visits to Capitol Hill could not have been more timely, as Congress is in the middle of a federal spending and revenue debate, and there is much anticipation on upcoming tax reform discussions.

Having members communicate the needs and concerns of the commercial real estate industry directly to congress is crucial in helping NAIOP advance its public policy agenda. Elected officials and their staff heard our message.
