Witness the transformation of 1271 Avenue of the Americas, where a comprehensive $325 million renovation is underway to convert the former Time-Life Building from a single-tenant to a multi-tenanted office building. Major elements of the renovation project include the replacement of the building’s glass curtain wall, allowing approximately 60 percent more light into the interior space, as well as restoration of the building’s landmarked lobby.

Building on the Yard’s history as the economic heart of Brooklyn, the 300-acre, waterfront asset offers a critical pathway to the middle class for many New Yorkers. Take an elevated tour of Manhattan’s West Side with a walk on the High Line, one of the city’s most popular and scenic parks. Once a historic freight line, the 1.45-mile High Line gained new life as a public park thanks to partnerships between a non-profit conservancy and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation. Bring your walking shoes and explore the history, architecture, art and horticulture of the High Line while enjoying some of the best views of the city. Friends of the High Line Co-Founder and Executive Director Robert Hammond and Former President of CSX Real Property Steve Crosby will share how this unique adaptive reuse project evolved and has served as a catalyst for new development in the area.

Hear from the developer, architect and engineers behind Hudson Yards, the largest private real estate development in the United States. The site will include more than 18 million square feet of commercial and residential space, state-of-the-art office towers, more than 100 shops and a collection of select restaurants. The urban development will include approximately 4,000 residences; The Shed, a new center for artistic invention; 14 acres of public open space; a 750-seat public school and a luxury hotel.

Talk with the team behind Cornell University’s new talent incubator campus being developed on New York City’s Roosevelt Island. When all phases of the development have been completed, the project will span 2 million square feet and cost an estimated $2 billion. The city provided the university with $100 million in capital funding for the project to help create a tech talent stream that will fuel the growth of technology startups in New York City. The tour also includes a visit to Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park at the southern part of the island.

Less than a decade ago, Uber, AirBnB and WeWork didn’t exist. Today, one is worth more on paper than Ford Motor, another more than Hyatt, and the third more than Boston Properties. Why? The short answer is that there’s an app for all that, but the truth is more complicated — how and where we live, how we move, and how we work are all being disrupted. The rise of coworking, co-living, ride-hailing and placemaking all point to new possibilities for networking, re-purposing, and more intensively utilizing what was previously just a house, a car, an office or a street. How we perceive cities, how we use them, and how we find each other within them has been transformed by our ability to connect, to summon services on demand, and to analyze and harness our increasingly sophisticated “data exhaust” (e.g. location data, likes, check-ins, taxi and Uber trips, and more).
