C1 Development, GMH Receive Approval for 1,000-Bed Student Housing Development Near Louisiana State University

A joint venture between C1 Development and GMH Communities has received approval for a student housing development at 6800 Burbank Drive near the Louisiana State University (LSU) campus in Baton Rouge. The development can span up to 1,000 beds and is set to offer cottage- and garden-style units, as well as townhomes, in two-, four- and five-bedroom configurations.

The Mobile Board of Zoning Adjustment has approved key variances for a new mixed-use development planned for the corner of Congress and Claiborne streets in the DeTonti Square Historic District, clearing the way for a four-story residential and commercial project aimed at serving teachers, firefighters and police officers, Downtown Mobile Today reports.

Saronic to Invest $$300M to Expand Shipyard in Franklin, Louisiana
Dec. 4, 2025

Saronic Technologies, an Austin-based manufacturer for the defense and space industries, has announced plans to invest $300 million to expand its existing shipyard in Franklin, a city in southern Louisiana’s St. Mary Parish. The shipyard first became operational in April. The new investment will allow Saronic to meet client demand for its fleet of autonomous ships, or Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs).

Burton, Peaceable Street Capital Close $$123M Recapitalization of Alabama Shopping Center Portfolio
Sept. 3, 2025

Mobile-based Burton Property Group and Peaceable Street Capital have closed the $123 million recapitalization of a four-property shopping center portfolio in Alabama. The properties include Riviera Square and Foley Square in Foley, Jubilee Square in Daphne and Westwood Plaza in Mobile. The 785,000-square-foot portfolio was 98 percent leased at the time of the recapitalization, details of which were not disclosed.
