The Senate Banking Committee last week voted 13-11 along party lines to advance the nomination of Scott Turner as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. On Jan. 14, NAIOP joined 22 real estate associations in signing a letter that endorsed Turner’s nomination.
During his confirmation hearing, Turner stated his strong support for the federal opportunity zone program created in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which will expire at the end of the year. If confirmed, the NFL veteran and former developer would run a department with a $70 billion budget and roughly 8,000 employees, according to Politico.
