House and Senate appropriators released a 49-page continuing resolution on Sunday evening to keep federal agencies open through Dec. 20. This move comes after House Republicans failed last week to reach an agreement on a six-month bill that would have included legislation requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration, known as the SAVE Act.
The nearly three-month extension in federal funding includes $231 million in additional funding for the Secret Service, additional funding for the presidential inauguration, and refills disaster relief accounts. Both the House and the Senate are expected to pass the legislation with significant bipartisan majorities, and send it to President Joe Biden before next Monday, Sept. 30, the last day of the federal fiscal year.
