The House and Senate return this week from their July 4th holiday recess and will focus on fiscal year 2025 spending legislation. House committees will mark up legislation for the departments of Commerce-Justice-Science, Interior-Environment, and Energy-Water appropriations Tuesday. The next day, the full House Appropriations Committee will mark up spending legislation for the departments of Labor-HHS-Education, Transportation-HUD, and Agriculture. On the Senate side, appropriators will consider the departments of Agriculture and Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, in addition to the legislative branch, bills at their first committee markup on July 11.
The push on appropriations bills comes the week before the House and Senate will recess again for the Republican National Convention next week in Milwaukee. Consideration of spending bills has been complicated by the national party conventions and the early, month-long recess Congress will take before this November’s election.
