The Government Affairs Committee is composed of three subcommittees, the Environment and Infrastructure Subcommittee, the State and Local Subcommittee and the Tax and Finance Subcommittee.

Environment and Infrastructure Subcommittee

The Environment and Infrastructure Subcommittee, together with the NAIOP Corporate staff liaison is dedicated to developing the federal environmental legislative and regulatory agenda for the association, as well as a comprehensive strategy for communicating the association's views to members of Congress and the Executive Branch. The Committee will provide direction to the government affairs staff and assist in identifying legislation and formulating policy positions on such legislation for the association. Issues that come under the jurisdiction of the environment committee include, but are not limited to, transportation and infrastructure policy, energy efficiency, Superfund and Brownfields, wetlands, storm water management, indoor air quality and the Endangered Species Act.

Qualifications

Appointments to the committee will be for one year, with the ability to renew each year, with a maximum term of four consecutive years. Members will be selected based on prior leadership experience with NAIOP at both the Corporate and Chapter level, and related professional experience. Members of the Environment Subcommittee should be familiar with and have some working knowledge of transportation, infrastructure, or environmental issues as they relate to the commercial real estate industry. The committee is seeking both geographical and chapter size diversity. Membership is open to both principal and associate members in good standing with NAIOP.

State and Local Subcommittee

The State and Local Subcommittee, together with the NAIOP Corporate staff liaison is dedicated to the education of our membership on the importance of individual and corporate citizenship, grass roots and political involvement at all levels of government on issues which directly impact the commercial real estate industry. The State and Local Subcommittee's mission is to proactively advance NAIOP's legislative agenda and secure our seat at the table when decisions are being made that directly impact our industry in the political arena.

Qualifications

Appointments to the committee will be for one year, with the ability to renew each year, with a maximum term of four consecutive years. Members will be selected based on prior leadership experience with NAIOP at both the Corporate and Chapter level, and related professional experience. Applicants should have a strong interest in and of the political process. The committee is seeking both geographical and chapter size diversity. Membership is open to both principal and associate members in good standing with NAIOP.

Tax and Finance Subcommittee

The Tax and Finance Subcommittee, together with the NAIOP Corporate staff liaison is dedicated to developing the tax and finance legislative agenda for the association as well as a comprehensive strategy for communicating the association's views to members of Congress. The committee's focus is on advocating and implementing federal tax and finance policy favorable to the commercial real estate industry.

Qualifications

Appointments to the committee will be for one year, with the ability to renew each year, with a maximum term of four consecutive years. Members will be selected based on prior leadership experience with NAIOP at both the Corporate and Chapter level, and related professional experience. The committee is seeking both geographical and chapter size diversity. Membership is open to both principal and associate members in good standing with NAIOP.

Committee members are expected to fund their own travel and hotel expenses, or to request funding from their chapter. In addition, conference calls may be scheduled during the year.
