Joel is excited to bring his unique perspective and background along with a valuable skillset to the NAIOP organization. He successfully co-founded two local boards early in his career and found the process so invigorating that he is pumped to do it again on a regional level. His excitement and enthusiasm for the Gulf Coast should help generate some measurable startup momentum and organizational buy-in, but at the bare minimum, he is confident his optimism will make board meetings more fun and engaging.
Joel is responsible for developing new projects, clients, and collaborators with the Woodward Design+Build organization within the construction, development, architecture and engineering teams. Other efforts include creating innovative partnerships, fostering strategic lines of service, and building trust with partners and clients through relationship management. Joel strives to serve clients’ needs through a high degree of hands-on service that focuses on project outcomes and real output.
A graduate of Tulane’s School of Architecture, Joel is a licensed architect with additional experience in real estate development and urban planning. He is actively involved in improving the built environment in and around New Orleans. He has helped design and implement over 60 projects that are well known both locally and nationally including Fives Oyster Bar, Jackson Barracks, Loyola University, redevelopments in Mobile, AL and Pensacola, FL to Police Station for the 2nd District NOPD, the Drifter Hotel, St. Roch Market, the Circle Food Store, and the Make It Right project in the Lower 9th Ward. His passion for New Orleans shines through in the work that he creates. He works on a very diverse array of projects that range from large, private developments to municipal projects to design work for local non-profits and small businesses.
In addition, Joel has shown great interest in advancing the city and the greater New Orleans region through civic engagement with numerous non-profits and professional affiliations. After hurricane Katrina, he was a founding member of the New Orleans Young Urban Rebuilding Professionals (NOLA YURP) that sought to retain, attract, and connect young people in New Orleans. He believes this mission is important today, not just to young people, but to all residents. Joel was also a founding member of the Creative Alliance of New Orleans (CANO), who briefly turned the Colton School on St. Claude into successful a local creative destination. Joel is active in the Urban Land Institute (ULI) which keeps him abreast of the potential and planned real estate development projects around the City.
