David Dale-Johnson

David Dale-Johnson

Professor David Dale-Johnson is the Stan Melton Executive Professor in Real Estate at the Alberta School of Business. An expert in real estate finance and development and city building, he came to U of A after many years teaching in that field at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and Sol Price School of Public Policy. He has led real estate study programs in Latin America and Asia as well as executive programs for professional organizations, local governments and private industry. Professor Dale-Johnson completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Business Administration at the University of British Columbia and a Ph.D. at the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. At the University of Alberta, he has built a new program in real estate at the Alberta School of Business offering a Certificate to Bachelor of Commerce students and stream to MBA students. In 2015, working with NAIOP Edmonton, he brought the NAIOP Real Estate Challenge to Alberta – now known as the Battle of Alberta, where students from the Alberta School of Business and the Haskayne School of Business compete in a development case competition. He teaches executive programs for REALpac and a new real estate elective for MBAs at the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University. His current research interests focus on the valuation of land use rights and the evolution of real estate markets in economies in transition.

As e-commerce sales continue their robust growth, manufacturers, transportation providers, distribution and fulfillment center operators and retailers all are being pressured to modify the retail logistics chain. To meet customer expectations, retailers must have merchandise on shelves for instant purchases as well as in distribution centers for delivery directly to customers. Additionally, retailers need to ensure that their deliveries—both to stores and directly to customers—are predictable and remain cost effective.

Frank Wuest, NAIOP Research Foundation Trustee, Passes

Frank Wuest died on August 13, 2016, while participating in a fundraising swim in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. At the time of his passing, Frank was president of Marcus Partners in Boston, Massachusetts, having established a successful career in real-estate investment and development.
